Paraphonie

It's a nice fall Sunday morning.  I built a vaguely organ-like paraphonic patch on my modular synth with Yarns, Jove, Peaks, and Shelves modules.  Here it is:

Chaos-some

Had some fun with the modular synthesizer: an amplitude modulated triangle low-frequency oscillator into a quantizer set to a pentatonic scale driving a sawtooth oscillator.  Then I layered some cracklebox over it with delay and then played some electric bass and piano over it for good measure.

I hate naming pieces, so I gave it an obnoxious one.  Bon appetit:

Bach-tronica

It's been a while, but I still make noises.  This time with help from J. S. Bach and Tom Oberheim.  Fugue No. 1 for the well tempered clavier on an Oberheim Matrix 6 synthesizer.

Pianoma

Time for more music played wrong!  Van Halen has a few fun songs for synth/piano (Jump, Right Now, etc), but a lot of their stuff is guitar-driven power trio stuff that doesn't seem like it could be translated to solo piano.  Last night I took an hour to see if "Panama" could happen on piano.  The results are a bit better than I had guessed.  Next time I'm at a piano bar, I'll be tempted to request it.

This instead of doing dishes

Here's a cover of Wilco's kind of cryptically named "Jesus etc."  It's got one of my favorite lyrics: "Our love is all of God's money."  This video features my new G&L Legacy guitar, which is the first guitar that I've ever bought new.

Well, hello there.

Oh yeah!  I've got a music blog!

Sorry for the months of neglect.  In 2017 I managed to sell a bunch of old equipment and buy a bunch of new stuff, including a beautiful grand piano.  Here I'm playing it while singing one of my favorite Ben Folds songs after a lazy New Year's day.

Everyone have a safe, healthy, fruitful, charitable 2018.

Total Eclipse of the Bonnie Tyler

We just had a solar eclipse.  It was amazing.  To celebrate I made a special cover of "Total Eclipse of the Heart".  Played with the video it's fantastic, but youtube's copyright bots hate it, so I had to take it down.  SoundCloud's letting me post the audio, though:
